Spring Cleaning The Kitchen

Spring is finally in the air! All those cold days had us cooped up inside cuddling up on the sofa, sipping on hot tea, reading our favorite novel, and inevitably dirtying up the place. Now that Spring is here, it’s time for rejuvenation. It’s a time for opening up those windows, letting the fresh air sweep your mind to summer nights and beach vacays, and get those grimy winter messes outta here! Our simple guide will have your kitchen clean in no time and ready for freshly squeezed lemonade and sugar cookies.

Before you start, you need to prep the area. This step is most important. It’s important to make sure you have everything you need before taking on any project. There’s nothing to setback your cleaning motivation quite like discovering you don’t have any cleaner or rubber gloves and need to run out to the store. You also need to clean before you clean (you heard that right). Before you can clean out your sink, you need to make sure it’s clear of any dishes. Run a load of dishes, clear and wipe down the countertops, and do a quick sweep of the kitchen. Now you’re ready to Spring clean!

The Refrigerator

Unless you clean out your refrigerator religiously every week, it’s likely you have some expired condiments, forgotten leftovers, at least 3 shrunken strawberries, and something suspicious wrapped in foil. Shelf-by-shelf, start taking out every food item and placing it on your countertop to take inventory. Once you’ve discarded old food, use a soft cloth, warm water, and mild soap to wipe down refrigerator shelves and doors before replacing your fresh foods. Repeat the same steps with your freezer and before you know it you’ll feel like you have a brand new refrigerator!

The Dishwasher

The machine that cleans your dishes must first be clean itself. Unfortunately, improper drying can cause mildew to grow over time. Start by removing any food debris or loose utensils from the bottom of the dishwasher. Instead of using harsh chemicals, you can use white vinegar and baking soda to remove grime and unpleasant odors. Simply place a cup of vinegar on the top rack and run a hot-water load, or sprinkle the bottom of the dishwasher with baking soda, leave overnight, then run a hot-water cycle.

The Oven

Unfortunately, the “Clean Cycle” setting on your oven can push your oven too hard while also causing unwanted smells. Instead, use your oven’s Steam Clean option which only uses water and temperatures that are safe enough to keep your oven door to unlocked. You can also coat your oven’s cavity with a water and baking soda paste, then remove and spray down with white vinegar.

Polish The Finish

Faithfully cleaning your appliances’ exterior can keep it look brand new. Whichever finish your appliances feature, always use a non-abrasive cloth for cleaning to avoid minor scratching that can cause long-term damage. However, the method you use to clean stainless steel is different than cleaning a painted appliance. KitchenAid® provides the best cleaning method for your appliances’ finish to keep it stunning.

Now your appliances look and feel brand new just in time for Spring!
